Diverse Educational Life Training Activities, Incorporated (DELTA, Inc.) is a 501 (c) (3) organization whose purpose is to engaging in such charitable, benevolent, educational, civic, social, cultural, and literary activities as deemed necessary and incident to improving the quality of life of the residents of the Northern Alabama area. DELTA, Inc. achieves this purpose through the funding and support of public service programs of Huntsville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and other charitable organizations.
DELTA, Inc. sponsors or co-sponsors activities within the community as follows:
Education and Empowerment
Hosts, annually, a day of recognition and reward to encourage the continued academic excellence of all the students to be honored at the Huntsville Alumnae Chapter Honor’s Convocation. Students and parents are provided motivational and information presentations and recreational activities designed to equip students with tools to keep them on the path to success as a student, and encourage them as community leaders.
Provides, annually, Book Stipends for students that have achieved academically by attaining the status of four-year scholar (honored all four years of high school) at the Annual Honor’s Convocation of Huntsville Alumnae.
Provides funding for activities, such as seminars and field trips, for girls, ages 11-14, to expose them and encourage them to explore, study, and succeed in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Provides funding for various activities and opportunities to help high school girls to become college ready. Activities Include: providing fundamental information on study habits, and test taking skills; researching and selecting a college for the right-fit, socially, as well as for intended career; providing a minimum of one (1) college tour per year; and assisting with scholarship research and application completion.
Funds a monthly reading hour targeted for children in elementary school. Volunteers read to the group to create a love for reading and help build literacy skills. Through crafts and other interactive activities participants are encouraged to use imagination and thinking. Each child receives a book to aid in the establishment of an at-home age appropriate library.
Provides, for middle school girls, books and sponsors a book club to encourage reading and group discussion.
Hosts and supports information seminars for senior citizens. These seminars help seniors avoid scams and provides resourceful information regarding services available in North Alabama.
Cultural and Social
Partners with Huntsville Alumnae Chapter to host a bi-annual summit aimed at addressing the issues confronting African American males, ages 14-17. In a series of seminars and workshops, the EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence): Transforming Boys to Men Summit brings together participants and male role models to identify and address obstacles to their educational, social, and emotional development.
Provides funding for cultural activities and field trips, for middle and high school girls, to promote positive self esteem and cultural awareness
HIV/AIDS Awareness and Education
As a member of the Community Faith Partners, DELTA, Inc. co-sponsors World AIDS Day activities designed to inform and further the awareness of the community of the plight of those who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. A Red Ribbon Breakfast is held annually, as part of the activities, to recognize individuals that have answered the call and made a difference in informing others about HIV/AIDS and supported or participated in HIV/AIDS related research.
